The Key to Credit Card Comparison

Comparing credit cards is just like window shoppingWhen you compare credit cards online you increase your chances of getting the best credit card for you. A credit card is an indispensable entity you need to carry with you for shopping, paying bills and much more activity. Choosing the most appropriate credit card that suits your requirements and provides you the best deal thus becomes very important. You will require your credit card to offer lowest interest rates, cheapest EMI options, convenient usage features and save you a lot of bucks. There are various credit card providers in Australia who provide different type of credit card offers catering to different requirements, financial status and expenditure styles of the Australians. It may sometimes be a daunting task to find out the most appropriate one. Even while using credit cards there can be various issues you need to deal with. To help you out, here are some quick and useful suggestions for all the Australians:

Identify the reason you want to apply for a credit card. Is it for daily shopping like grocery, travel expenditure, petrol payments, bill payments etc? It has generally been observed that Australians utilize their credit cards for grocery and for travel as well. Get a rough estimate of how much your spending are and when will you be repaying the credits as that will decide how much interest you will be paying. You also need to get hold of the credit card jargon such as rates of interest, cash advance, balance transfer and card fee, interest free period etc. When you compare credit cards you save money.

Credit cards provide reward points on purchases which vary on type of purchase and what rewards you may get. This criterion can sometimes suit your requirements. For example, special rewards on Sydney to Melbourne travel are useful for frequent travelers between these destinations or petrol rewards can be interesting for road travelers. Australians frequently traveling abroad and doing transactions in foreign currencies will need to consider foreign currency or overseas transaction terms on the credit card. Keep a track of what should be an appropriate time to change your credit card such as expiration on an offer, expiration of interest free period etc.

Some of the check points while comparing offers can be:

Lowest interest rate card may not always be most economical as it may have higher annual fee and may effectively turn out to be costlier. Don’t consider the reward points and reward value as one reward point may now always equate to $1. Once you have chosen the cheapest credit card providing best deals and offers, you should follow some simple guidelines so that you have pleasant experience using your card. Keep track of your credit card bills and take note of any discrepancy and additional charges on the card. For security reasons, do not reveal your credit card details on email, unauthorized sites or vendors and try not use your credit card on poor quality websites. Overall if you compare as many credit cards as possible then you will increase the likely hood that you will save money in repayments in the long run.

Credit Cards – The Australian Perspective

I most certainly HATE my credit card. I began with a $2500 limit which I had no restraint with. I would spend and spend and then cry when the statement came in. I began a direct debit every week and slowly got it down to a manageable $1000. I spent up again and now I have finally got it down to $500. I can cope with this now but its caused so many arguments with the husband. If I had the willpower I would cut it up, but in my head I think just in case. Its money I cant see so I just don’t realise that what amount I am spending. I would use the credit card for groceries so Id have extra in my pay, and Id use it to indulge. By the end of the year I hope to have it all paid off and CUT UP! If I had of spent the time to compare credit card offers and not apply for the first card I saw I believe I could have saved myself a lot of money. Joan – South Australia

After my hours of credit card comparison I followed the siren call, plunged wilfully into this credit card relationship, but since the first heady days and weeks, have come to question the grief that comes along with the love. Do I want to stay in this credit card relationship? So much is promised, but if I snatch at it greedily, as one starved for affection, if I show my weakness and don’t exercise control, then usually there’s hell to pay. Tears and more tears, is it worth the pain? Susan – Western Australia

I love the freedom, the immediate gratification of my whims and fancies, I can have whatever my heart desires. But there’s punishment and recrimination if I don’t repay the credit card bill on time. Dues are always demanded, and before much time has passed. I tussle for control, but should I walk away and not engage in such a battle? Is this true love? The attraction is still there, God knows, but is it worth the price I pay in credit card debt? My mother, who long before me learned the hard way, grasps at her ever-present platitudes and tells me forlornly, “Make your financial choices wisely, there’s no such thing as a free lunch” and quotes the dire words of scripture: “Of those to whom much is given, much shall be demanded”. But then comes self-knowledge. I realise that I’ve been too demanding. If I am more temperate, less greedy, then the credit card relationship can endure – with its highs and lows, yes, but satisfying, productive. I will be indulged, but in return I must be willing to repay what’s given, and sometimes more than what’s given. And that’s a fair credit card deal for both of us.
