Credit Card Anxiety – An Epedemic of the Modern Age
Anxiety is rampant throughout the world caused by stress, lifestyle and family history. A new form of anxiety has emerged in this millennium, caused by that little piece of plastic in your pocket. Thousands of Australian families are feeling the pinch in the current economic climate, with job losses and an ever increasing cost of living. Consequently, Australians are becoming more reliant on their credit card/credit cards than in the past, causing financial difficulties leading to “credit card anxiety”.
If you are like thousands of Australian families, struggling with mortgage repayments and credit card debt you may be hounded by sometimes over bearing credit agencies asking you for all your money. Financial stress is a genuine cause for anxiety, this type of stress can lead to depression making your day to day activities a struggle. If this sounds like you, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. By following a few simple steps you can rid yourself of credit card anxiety and take control of your life once again.
One of the most common mistakes people make when in financial trouble is becoming overwhelmed by debt. Overgeneralizing can cause you to become so overwhelmed that you do not see any chance of getting out of your current financial situation. For example take Suzy, she has $10,000′s in credit card debt, car repayments, personal loan and a mortgage. Suzy can look at this situation on 2 ways, firstly she can become overwhelmed by the amount of debt owed and think that it is a hopeless cause resulting in anxiety, withdrawal, depression and ultimately the debt will remain outstanding.
Alternatively Suzy can look at this scenario in more positive light, when looking at seemingly daunting tasks it is important to remember not to try and fix everything at once (As this is illogical and impossible). Breaking down the problem into manageable chunks, setting daily and weekly goals is the only way to tackle seemingly hopeless situations. Writing down realistic goals, starting with a daily planner can help you manage your debt and prevent anxiety. When you write down achievable goals you will begin to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Setting a long term plan, broken down into little parts will allow you crawl, walk and run and ultimately lead to financial freedom
If you are one of those Australians that does suffer from anxiety due to financial stress there is a government initiative program named Beyond Blue. This fantastic cause is designed to help everyday Australians manage anxiety and depression.
