Exploring the Apple iPhone

Marketed by Apple, iPhone is a multimedia enabled smart phone that has been creating a ripple ever since its first launch in 2007. The then CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, launched the first ever iPhone which made the media go berserk. Ever since, five models have been launched, all of which have been  highly successful.

THE OPERATING SYSTEM: The operating system for iPhone is the iOS. It was initially designed specifically for Apple mobiles; however, with time its use was extended to other Apple products like the iPad, iPod, Apple TV and other related products. The iOS is UNIXlike in its approach as it derives the functionalities from MAC OS X. The operating system has four separate layers of abstraction which are namely the core OS layer, core services layer, media layer and cocoa touch layer. Each of these layers performs a specific function and interacts with one another to achieve good results. There have been various versions of this operating system with iOS5 being the latest. This version was announced in June 2011 and has been reported to have over 200 new features as compared to its predecessor. iCloud service and notification centre are the two most talked about features of this new OS. There are a lot of different minor and major applications that were launched along with this new operating system to attract users all around the world. Even the camera has an improved look and better functionality. iOS4 and iOS5 provided a lot of multitasking ability as different tasks could be executed in the background while you could perform other tasks simultaneously.

iPhone4 And iPhone4s

These are the two latest iPhones that have been launched by Apple. Here, we shall make a comparison of the two discussing in detail the different features and functionalities of each of them. Both these phones have been successful in the market but the iPhone4S is an obvious improvement over the older model iPhone4. The processor for iPhone4S is Apple A5 dual core while that for iPhone4 is the older version, namely the Apple A4 single core processor. Naturally, the dual core processor is not only fast, but it has a lot of other significant advantages as well. The image processing ability is comparatively faster for the newer model owing to the advanced image signal processing unit which has been integrated within the new processor. If the claims of Apple are to be believed, they are of the opinion that the graphics processing unit or GPU as it is often called is seven times better than the previous version of the processor. They even believe that the CPU is twice as strong as the older version of the processor. Hence, iPhone4S scores over the older model completely, at least when it comes to the processor.

Apart from the processor, there are a lot of other visible improvements in the phone. The camera quality is much better as iPhone4S has an integrated 8 megapixel camera opposed to 5 megapixels for Apple iPhone4. The newer model boasts some very innovative features like “siri”. Siri is an automated inbuilt system which makes use of audio instructions to command the phone. The phone can be operated using these voice commands. It is an extremely beneficial feature as it has compatibility with almost all languages. Thus, Apple iPhone4S obviously succeeded in charming a lot of people. Although, one factor that could come in the way is the mammoth price. Despite the fact that there are a lot of technological improvements in iPhone4S compared to iPhone4, price might be an issue when you go ahead with the decision to purchase an Apple phone. However, if you do not have a budget constraint, Apple iPhone4S might be the perfect choice.

There were a lot of rumors before the launch of iPhone4S. It was referred to as iPhone5 with media circulating reports of a “transparent phone” and a lot of fan frenzy. Apple managed to launch a product very different from the circulating rumours and aptly called it Apple iPhone4S rather than iPhone5. The phone still managed to rake in a lot of money and proved to be immensely successful.

Apple came in the news after the death of Steve Jobs on October 5^th, 2011. He was the co-founder, Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer of Apple. He was the man behind the idea of the iPhone. However, after fighting a long battle with cancer, he finally died at the age of 56. Soon after his sad demise, a lot of people mourned in his grief and sales figures took a sharp rise as people paid their tributes to the man who changed the way we looked at multimedia enabled smart phones. A lot of people purchased iPhone4S in his memory and hence Apple benefitted from Jobs even after his death.

Apple enjoys an enviable popularity as they have been the undisputed leaders when it comes to the iPhone. There is no fierce competition as none of the other companies have succeeded in bridging the gap between Apple andthemselves. There have been some issues with all the various models of iPhone that Apple has launched. However, the pool of loyal Apple customers is so immense that it still manages to rule the world of iPhone and table phones. Tablet phones have soared in popularity and companies like Samsung and Sony Ericsson have emerged champions in this field, but even then it could not match the scale of success of Apple Inc.

Apple iPhones have been ruling the market for too long. If you are a staunch Apple lover, it might be a good idea to invest in the iPhone4S; no doubt it is one of Apple’s best smart phones ever. The only hiccup could be the price of the phone, but given the brand power and the aura of the phone, it could still be considered a bargain. Thus, with Steve Jobs no  longer in the frame, it remains to be seen what Apple has in store for future generations.
